The Community Electrical Innovation Program
What to Know
CEI is designed to bolster the reliability of electrical service across Virgin Islands communities by helping significantly increase the proliferation of solar and battery microgrids throughout the territory in a way that absorbs power demand fluctuations to the grid to support more reliable overall utility power distribution. VIEO is seeking to partner with community based organizations who provide services to low to moderate income (LMI) individuals, or whose participation could support a meaningful increase in grid resiliency in areas with vulnerable populations and underserved communities. The program has been funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with a $10 million allocation, and the solar microgrids that will be installed must at a minimum be able to provide 24 hours of energy backup for the facility.
