Southface Energy Institute to conduct Energy Audit Training in Territory
Training will focus specifically on Virgin Islands building infrastructure and temperature climate
St. Croix, VI, June 18, 2015– The Virgin Islands Energy Office (VIEO) is pleased to announce that it will be offering two 5-day energy audit training sessions for local energy industry professionals. The customized training will be facilitated by Southface Energy Institute (SEI) and will address the housing stock and climate of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The trainings will be taught by Mr. Steve Herzlieb, a Project Manager and Certified IREC Master Trainer. Trainings will be held in each respective district:
- St. Thomas, July 14-18 – @ University of the Virgin Islands – Caribbean Green Technology Center & UVICELL
- St. Croix, July 20-24 – @ University of the Virgin Islands – Research & Technology (RT) Park
The Energy Auditing and Building Science Principles trainings “will provide a foundation of building science knowledge for industry professionals to perform energy audits and incorporates the Building Professional Science Principles (BSP) Certificate of Knowledge developed by the Building Professional Institute (BPI)”, says Southface Institute. Basic building science concepts, home assessment, and improvement concepts, and the use of diagnostic equipment will be presented. The trainings will consist of a combination of classroom and field activities.
Participants that attend the entire course will be eligible for a Certificate of Completion or Attendance dependent upon their test scores. Optionally, participants will have the opportunity to undergo the online exam for the BPI BSP Certificate of Knowledge. After successful completion of the course, participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the performance of whole-home energy assessments and the development of solutions that improve the energy efficiency and health and safety qualities of a home.
All invited or interested participants are encouraged to confirm their attendance no later than July 6th. Participation is limited to 10 attendees per district. An application fee of $200 will be collected from each applicant on or before the first day of training. Limited grant funding is available for hardship cases.
