STT/STJ SDA Crusaders win coveted 2017 KidWind High School Judge’s Choice Award

The Virgin Islands Energy Office is pleased to announce the success of our very own 2017 Territorial KidWind Challenge winners in the recent national competition. The St. Thomas-St. John Seventh-Day Adventist School Crusaders recently represented the U.S. Virgin Islands at the National KidWind Challenge during the week of May 21–26, 2017, in Anaheim, California. Team members included Aliya Benjamin, Kevin King, and Khaleel Smith. They were accompanied by Mr. Leayon Carty their teacher/coach, and Mr. Carl Joseph, Energy Analyst at the Virgin Islands Energy Office.  The students captured the High School Judge’s Choice Award based on their “overall knowledge, demonstration of teamwork, and commitment to your turbine, and the Challenge as a whole,” an award coveted by their fellow competitors. The young Virgin Islands ambassadors placed 13th in the competition. The impressive young scientists were the only team to compete from outside of the U.S. mainland. CONGRATULATIONS to Aliya, Kevin, and Khaleel!
